Monday I find myself in God-forsaken Orlando for a conference. Cooped up all day sitting, I decide to get out for a short Monday evening run to enjoy the soulless hotel-strewn wasteland surrounding the Convention Center. It begins to rain almost immediately. I do only about 3 miles, because I ran both Saturday(8) and Sunday(5), and I’ve promised my body I am going to give it 24 hours to recover whenever I stress it, even a little bit. My theory is that three miles is a distance I can do without stress of any sort, that is, I can sneak in 3 miles and and my various complaining body parts, such as my ever-cranky Achilles tendon, don’t even notice. It seems to be working. This place seems to be laid out sort of like an airport without the planes. Not the best place to run. But, I did see wood storks in a little (presumably fake) lake near my hotel. And trees growing out of the water. There seemed to be some green space and a real lake not to far away, but there was no way to get there short of running across an expressway. And I’m not that fast.

- "Well, in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, "you'd generally get to somewhere else — if you run very fast for a long time, as we've been doing." "A slow sort of country!" said the Queen. "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"
